Newcastle musician Jake Houlsby has announced the release of Oklahoma, the second track taken from his Vondelpark EP out on 5th May via Tipping Point Records (Eliza and the Bear, Azekel, Bryde).
The North East native’s luscious overtones and mature songwriting strongly come to the fore in Oklahoma, drawing welcome comparisons to the likes of The National, Sufjan Stevens and Fleet Foxes yet retaining that element of uniqueness which helps him stand out from many of his contemporaries.
With extensive support from the online community following the release of EP lead track Howl, coupled with previous backing from BBC 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne and Tom Robinson, Houlsby is perfectly positioned ahead of festival season with appearances at Live At Leeds and The Great Escape already confirmed.
Speaking ahead of the release, Jake stated: “There’s something about the American South that has always enchanted me. I’d just read Woody Guthrie’s autobiography a few years ago when I remember seeing pictures of Oklahoma and getting this weird feeling of discontent and nostalgia. I wrote this song shortly after.”
Produced by Mick Ross (Ajimal, Let’s Buy Happiness, The Lake Poets), Jake Houlsby’s Oklahoma is released on 29th March via Tipping Point Records.
